Harpy Eagle Photography & Filming Expedition – Amapá, Brazilian Amazon

DATE: Available from September 2026 to March 2027 | WHERE: Macapá – AP

WHAT TO EXPECT?

A special opportunity to photograph or film a Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja) at an active nest in the state of Amapá, in the Brazilian Amazon.

The tour begins in Macapá, where we pick you up and travel by private, air-conditioned vehicle to a remote region approximately three hours from the capital.

We will be based on the banks of the Araguari River, in an exceptional area of Amazonian rainforest with excellent opportunities to explore the surrounding forest and river environments in search of other wildlife species.

The Harpy Eagle nest is located in an exceptional position for wildlife observation, photography, and filming, offering excellent views of the eagle and its activities around the nest. Access is relatively easy, as we can drive close to the site, followed by only a short distance along an unpaved road. No long hikes or demanding trails are required, making the experience suitable for people of different ages and fitness levels.

Although the main focus of the expedition is the Harpy Eagle, the location offers the opportunity to experience much more of the region’s biodiversity. During the tour, we can explore other areas of the forest in search of mammals, birds, and other wildlife, depending on local conditions and the interests of the participants.

We can also take a boat trip on the Araguari River, exploring the riverbanks and surrounding forest while looking for additional bird species and other wildlife. The region is also home to a variety of interesting and locally occurring amphibian species, which we can search for during appropriate periods and conditions.

The tour can be arranged as a 3-, 4-, or 5-day experience, depending on the participant’s available time, photographic goals, and interest in exploring the wider biodiversity of the region.

The package includes:

  • Private transportation from Macapá in an air-conditioned vehicle;
  • Accommodation throughout the tour;
  • All meals;
  • Transportation to and from the Harpy Eagle nest site;
  • Boat trip on the Araguari River, when included in the itinerary;
  • Wildlife exploration in the surrounding forest and river environments;
  • Assistance throughout the entire experience.

The tour is offered exclusively as a private experience, with a maximum of 3 participants per group, providing greater comfort, flexibility, and better conditions for photography and filming.

Optional airfare

Round-trip airfare from São Paulo to Macapá can be arranged as an optional addition to the tour.

An experience specially designed for wildlife photographers, filmmakers, birdwatchers, and nature enthusiasts who want to photograph one of the most impressive birds of prey in the Brazilian Amazon while also exploring one of the region’s remarkable and less-visited rainforest environments.

The tour is organized by photographer and wildlife filmmaker Rafael Guadeluppe, founder of the video production company Latin Wild Films and author of the documentary about the Atlantic Forest “The Pulse of the Atlantic Forest”, in partnership with Rodrigo Tavares, a biologist and wildlife researcher based in Amapá, affiliated with the Federal University of Amapá (UNIFAP). You can also visit his Instagram page, HERPING AMAPÁ.

This partnership combines professional wildlife photography and filmmaking experience with local biological and scientific knowledge, providing participants with a deeper understanding of the region and its biodiversity.
