PRIVATE TOUR ANY DATE – US$ 2,500.00 PER PERSON | WHERE: SANTARÉM – PA – BRAZIL | 07 DAYS / 06 NIGHTS
WHAT TO EXPECT?
A 7-day, 6-night itinerary in the city of Santarém, including a visit to the village of Alter do Chão and the community of Maguari, located within the Tapajós National Forest.
We begin our expedition in São Paulo, and our meeting point is Guarulhos International Airport. Our flight departs at 6:00 AM for Santarém, so it is necessary to arrive at the airport at least two hours in advance, at 4:00 AM.
From Santarém, we will travel by car to the community of Maguari, where we will stay at the Pousada Vale do Corocão, inside the Tapajós National Forest. We will have three days to explore the reserve and will go on morning and afternoon hikes in search of the region’s animal species, especially birds, arachnids, amphibians, reptiles, and, above all, primates. In previous expeditions to the region, I was impressed by the richness of species we observed, such as caimans, various species of lizards and anuran amphibians, tarantulas, and several snakes, including the Bushmaster and the Amazonian pit viper.
Regarding primates, the presence of thirteen species has been confirmed in the reserve, mainly the Spider monkey, Titi monkey, Saki, White-nosed saki, Capuchin, and Night monkey.
One of the highlights of this part of the expedition is the poison dart frog (Adelphobates castaneoticus), an endemic species of the region that lives associated with the Brazil nut tree, where it lays its eggs. It is a species of frog from the Dendrobatidae family, notable for its beautiful colors.
On one of our days in the Tapajós Forest, we will take a boat trip to a stream located within the reserve.
Our second destination is the city of Alter do Chão, nationally known as the Amazonian Caribbean due to its beautiful freshwater beaches, which form during the dry season, between August and November. The period of our trip is ideal, and we will dedicate some afternoons to enjoying the local beaches. In Alter, we will find excellent spots to observe the Silvery marmoset (Mico argentatus) and we hope to spend some time in the company of this charming primate. In addition to the marmoset, one of the highlights of this tour, we will look for birds, other primates, and anything else that crosses our path during our searches, as we love all animals.
In Alter, we will also take boat trips to visit some of the most famous spots in the region, such as the Sloth Trail.
We will conclude our expedition by departing early from Alter do Chão to visit the Fish Market and the Municipal Market of Santarém. After lunch, we will head to the city’s airport, from where our flight departs at 2:45 PM bound for São Paulo.
The expedition is organized by photographer and wildlife filmmaker Rafael Guadeluppe, founder of the video production company Latin Wild Films and author of the documentary about the Atlantic Forest “The Pulse of the Atlantic Forest”.
In short, this is an expedition for those who enjoy nature trails, are energetic, and also interested in wildlife observation. Many people ask if they need to be a photographer or biologist to participate in our expeditions, and the answer is a resounding no. Just be sure you enjoy the countryside and come prepared, as the speedboat ride is somewhat tiring. In any case, we have an experienced team ready to offer participants the best possible experience.
We also emphasize that we can’t guarantee you’ll see any species. What we can guarantee is that we’ll be in the right places with the best team to encounter as many species as possible. The timing is ideal, so we expect to encounter a large number of species during our expedition.
